Hindu and Indian culture, as the clothes reflect has a rich tradition of customs, festivals and auspicious occasions to celebrate almost every aspect of life and living in a vast and dynamic landscape such as India. So there are festivals to bring in the harvest, changing weather, marriage, pre-marriage rituals, rituals and traditions for children and the list is endless.

One such special festival is Karwa Chauth, where women fast all day for the safety and longevity of their husbands.

Mostly Hindu women celebrate this festival along with their husbands – a day-long festival where married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. This fast is done without eating any food or drink and that includes water for the entire day.

The fast can only be broken once the moon is visible to the wife, then a ritual is commenced to view the reflection of the moon in a vessel with water through a sieve or cloth/veil, and offering water to the moon to secure its blessings, and offering prayers to the moon and for her husband. Before breaking the fast by taking the first sip of water normally by the hands of her husband. Sometimes unmarried women join in the fast for their fiancés or desired husbands.

One hugely popular option is re-using your wedding outfit. Women who are doing their first Karwa Chauth after marriage in particular, often opt to wear their wedding outfit on the day, to honour their first Karwa Chauth festival and fast.

What other fun way would there be to relive that glorious day than celebrating it on the auspicious and special festival of Karwa Chauth!

We can also create a custom-made designed Garment especially for you or visit our store in Thornleigh at Shop 4/295-299, Pennant Hills Road, Thornleighto shop our latest collection.
Karwa Chauth – time to dress up

Along with the religious and ritualistic significance of Karwa Chauth another hugely important factor is the dressing up that goes along with the day. Outfits are prepared beforehand and shopping starts a few months earlier to get the perfect outfit, henna artists are heavily booked and the jewellery also comes out. It’s a time for wives of all ages to come together, celebrate their collective and individual strength as women as well as the special bond they share with their husbands. It’s a wonderful opportunity for women to showcase their fashion style, as well as get a little bridal. This is really the only day they can. Here we’ll take a look as to how you can dress up this Karwa Chauth and make sure you have the perfect outfit for yourself on the special day.

The opulent bridal red is always an ideal outfit choice. It’s like a tribute to the bride that you have been and a very popular option for Karwa Chauth for young and the young-at-heart wives!

A silk kanjeevaram saree is also another winning ensemble as seen here on Sridevi – shes chosen the rich red, orange and slight-pinkish hues which are colours one associates with a ‘bride’ and perfect for the festival of Karwa Chauth.

What about combining traditional red with gun-metal antique embroidery. Whether it’s a lehenga or a kurta you choose for the day both will be a great option. The work makes it more contemporary and something that you can wear easily to an evening wedding reception or party.

There’s also nothing wrong about adding an array of colours to your outfit beyond the reds, pinks and oranges – just like this Preeti S Kapoor number you can wear a gharara with multiple colours and wear a super fun and bright number for Karwa Chauth! Mix n Match all the way!

If it’s not a lehenga, kurta, saree or ghararayoure after. The anarkali is easy, comfortable and rather effortless to wear. The varieties are endless and colours are plenty to choose from. Whether is a deep orange, bright yellow, or red or even pink an anarkali is another winner on this special day!

Re-use your wedding outfit
